I made a huge mistake early on in my career. And not until close to 20 years later did I realize that mistake!

Here's my story... I worked at PayPal pre-IPO. I had access to people in the PayPal mafia and should have developed my networks then. I was one of their first 20 people in customer service who worked in the University Ave building. I didn’t have the soft skills to develop the relationship with these people who would later become major players in the Silicon Valley. I was connected to the founders of Youtube, Yelp, Reddit, Tesla, SpaceX, and many venture capital firms and didn’t even realize it. When I met many of these guys again, they barely recognize me. Only when I mention I worked in the University Ave building do they realize I was there when they were or even prior! It's stories like these that will impact your team members and get them to rethink what they are doing.
